At Impact Coatings, we have been supplying customers in hydrogen-related technologies with PVD coating solutions for critical components for over a decade. Our technology enables production of high-performance coatings that deliver energy efficiency and durability for fuel cell and electrolyzer applications.
Our delivery models are flexible to meet production requirements at every development stage. We deliver quality PVD coatings from testing and verification to pre-series and mid-volume production in our Coating Service Centers. Our PVD systems are ideal for customers who want to scale to high-volume production in-house with equipment matched and configured for their specific application. The PVD systems can be operated by our Managed Services team, or by the customers’ own personnel. This proven service and system delivery model supports our customers in scaling up with maximum control in each production stage.
At our facilities in Sweden and China, we offer a full in-house coating service for fuel cell and electrolyzer applications. The coating service typically assists customers through prototype and scale-up phases and is utilized by plate and stack manufacturers worldwide.

PEM fuel cells operate at low tempertures enabling fast start and stop, optimal for mobility applications, such as for fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). When hydrogen acts as fuel, the only products from the powertrain are electricity, water, and heat.
An electrolyzer produces hydrogen from water and electricity and consists of a stack of anodes and cathodes submerged in an electrolyte. The structure and build up, as well as the different electrolytes differ depending on the electrolyzer technology.
